Sustainable architecture and environmentally-friendly construction materials in recent years have become priorities for the world’s most prestigious architects and designers when creating new projects, as they have found that the environment can be protected through their designs.

These environmentally aware professionals have thus ventured to explore eco-friendly materials for the construction of homes, such as coffee husks, bamboo, clay and even plastic. For example, in Taipei (Taiwan), the 26-metre high EcoARK building has been constructed with a total of 1.5 million plastic bottles.

As a result of the search for environmentally friendly and sustainable construction materials, we have Solid Surface Krion®, a 100% recycled, resilient and fully adaptable material that has become one of the most sustainable design options for future building projects.

Krion® Lux among the new environmentally friendly construction materials

Krion® Lux is among the best environmentally friendly materials for home construction, not only because of its sustainability but also for its technical properties.

Krion® Lux is resistant to impact, scratches, prolonged use and inclement weather conditions, making it an ideal option for covering façades and the outdoor areas of homes.

In addition, its aseptic qualities help to keep spaces such as the bathroom or kitchen (where hygiene is paramount) free of viruses and bacteria.

Krion® Lux’s versatility makes it a fully customizable option (available in more than 100 different colors) suitable for all types of homes, and it can be used for continuous designs (heat molded with imperceptible joins) and creative projects in any part in the house.

Why is Solid Surface a sustainable material?

There are many advantages to using environmentally friendly and sustainable building materials. In the case of Krion® Solid Surface they include the following:

100% recyclable

Two thirds of the mineral composition of Krion® Solid Surface consists of natural minerals, while it contains a small percentage of high-strength resins. It is 100% recyclable, so that all products made with Krion® can be reprocessed and reused at the end of their working life.

The surplus material from the production of Krion® models is processed to be used in the manufacture of new designs, so that no waste material is generated.

Low chemical emissions and less atmospheric pollution

Krion® Solid Surface has been awarded the GreenGuard certificate, which guarantees that products designed with this material for indoor use comply with strict limits on chemical emissions, thus contributing to the creation of healthier interiors. It is also classified as having low emission levels for volatile organic compounds (VOC). These certifications attest to Krion®’s environmental awareness and commitment to sustainability.

Products manufactured with recycled material

Almost 40 Krion® Solid Surface colors are made using recycled materials and they have been awarded the SCS Global Services Certificate as having a minimum of 6%, 12%, 20% and up to 40% of recycled content.

Series such as Terrazo, Materia, Asteroid and Royal+ are made from recycled materials, but this does not make them any less resilient and ensures a design that prioritizes sustainability and innovation.
